The AI economy is here.
Here’s what we’re doing about it.
dear [CC] is an independent, nonprofit media and data platform providing real stories, stats, and tools to make AI work for you. A New Work Foundation initiative.

“I’ve seen these hiring shifts play out and made some of these hard calls myself. There are no experts in AI — it’s all too new and changing too fast. This is your opportunity, and dear [CC] is here to help you.”
Clara Shih spent 20 years leading AI at Meta and Salesforce, scaling teams and running $10B businesses. Named to the TIME100 AI and serving on the board of HubSpot, she’s one of the few nonprofit founders with the technical depth and scaled business experience to respond to AI disruption by building AI solutions. In early 2026, Clara published a viral essay on the AI displacement crisis, arguing that the entry-level freeze is the early signal of something much larger in our economy and society.
“The future isn’t automatic. We can still choose a better ending.”
As AI handles work that junior staff used to learn on, it’s creating a generation of “never-hired” professionals. These aren’t just lost jobs — they’re lost career pathways. The long-term damage may not be visible for years: depressed lifetime earnings, delayed household formation, diminished tax contributions compounding into structural economic drag.

Built for the workers AI left behind.
Designed for what comes next.
The New Work Foundation’s thesis: the only way to keep up with the pace of AI change is to use AI itself, on both the problems and the opportunities it creates. We apply AI-native approaches to accelerate nonprofit impact, running rapid experiments across complementary initiatives that span today’s entry-level freeze and the longer-term reality of an AGI world. These initiatives will evolve, and new ones will launch. The problem is moving fast, and so are we. 501(c)(3) status in progress.

“Since earning her degree, Madia applied for more than 300 jobs. Despite two internships and a strong GPA, she remained unemployed — not because she hadn’t worked hard, but because the market she’d prepared for no longer exists.”
